Shooting a Basketball takes more than just skill, it also takes strength. Try this shoulder workout for a stronger catch and release on your jump shot. 

I also mentioned a wrist workout, strong wrists are great for dribbling and a quick release when shooting. I used to know a Basketball play who played over in the Philippines, and we called him crazy man because of his crazy handles and crazy quick shot. This is one of the things he told me to do to have a quick release like his. Oh and it worked.
