The Portland Trail Blazers, a professional basketball team which joined the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association in 1970. They play at the Moda Center in the Lloyd District of Portland. They are owned by Microsoft co-founder and Vulcan Inc.chairman Paul Allen, who purchased the team in 1988. The team is often referred to as "Rip City", which was coined by play-by-play announcer Bill Schonely during their inaugural season.
