As a coach I know that planning a practice is not always possible when your busy with work, and many coaches thrive without actually planning. So is planning a practice actually worth spending time on?

I know from experience that a planned practice can help with players with special needs. By planning a practice the players will have less anxiety from not knowing what is coming up. I am by far not a perfect coach, I hardly ever plan my practices when coaching the teams I have in the past, however as a Basketball trainer I always plan my training sessions. I find that when I don't plan practices as a coach I forget half of the drills I originally wanted to run.

So in conclusion, while some coaches will thrive using practice plans, I would suggest to all coaches to use practice plans and go over the practice plans before practice.
