As a coach there have been many times when players have come up to me asking how they can jump higher. There are two things I say, 1) I give them my website and 2) I say I will do some vertical jump exercises during each practice.

Here are some exercises you can do with your team for them to jump higher. (BONUS: these exercises are great for all ages):

  • Skipping
After suicides (or running) have your whole team skip to the other end of the court and back a few times. get them to jump up as high as they can,
  • Tip Toes
At the end of practice during the cool down have your whole team walk on their toes to the other end of the court and back a few times.
  • Running Backwards
Running backwards works on your quads more than running forward, and quads are one of the major muscles for jumping.
  • Plank Running
After warming up have your whole team start in a plank position and when you blow your whistle they will get up and sprint to the other end and back (repeat a few times).
