Teens LOVE energy drinks, however drinking an Energy drink before a Basketball game is not the greatest idea. The average energy drink has double the amount of your daily sugar intake and the same amount of caffeine as 3-5 coffees. This can extremely slow your reaction time and create heart palpitations. 

A great alternative is Vitamin C like Oranges and lemons, for a great tasting home made energy drink for and athlete is a mixture of grapefruit, orange, lemon, and lime water. 

The best alternative:
2 Limes
1 Lemon
8 Cups of water 

Fill a jug with 8 cups of water and place the sliced limes and lemon into the water and let it sit in the fridge over night. 

The sweet alternative 
2 Oranges 
1 Grapefruit
8 cups of water    
  

Fill a jug with 8 cups of water and place the sliced oranges and Grapefruit into the water and let it sit in the fridge over night. 

My personal favourite is:
1 Orange
1 Grapefruit
1 Lemon 
8 Cups of water

Fill the jug with water and place the sliced fruit in and let sit in fridge over night. 

In the morning I like to bottle the flavoured water and put the fruit slices into a plastic container to eat later (I really like lemon).
